![]() ![]() If you are, I definitely recommend this game. You need to be an HO fan and be in an HO mood. It's an extremely fun thing to do! No, this game is not for everyone. So afterwards, you're left with a thoroughly bare room. Just as in The Lost Tomb, you can clear each hidden object scene completely (when you find an item, the word is crossed off and another pops up in its place). One is Unlimited Match 3 and the other is Unlimited Hidden Objects. Find 50 locks in those 25 areas and you open up 2 Bonus Games. There are 25 scenes that you repeatedly visit but there are so many items in each, you're always looking for something different. The game is just many HO scenes with puzzles here and there (jigsaw, memory tiles, match 3, and word search). There's no scare factor - you're just searching for items that will help you leave. There's no story other than "escape the island". I wouldn't say there's anything remarkable about the game. I didn't REALLY need to buy it on Steam but I wanted it with my "steam HO set" and also wanted an excuse to play it again. Such is Escape Rosecliff Island but I prefer this game over all the rest. Actually, there are quite a few Popcap games that are pretty much just pure HO scenes with little to no story. This game has a lot in common with the other I just reviewed, Amazing Adventures: The Lost Tomb. I purchased this game in a bundle of Popcap games, which in my opinion is the only way you should get a hold of a copy of this game. Still, I wouldn't really recommend this game, unless you have great patience and tolerance for redundant gameplay and repetitive actions. With well over 2000 objects to find, it will definitely take some time - and I took this time to find all of them without taking hints. One small highlight, however, was the finding of all 50 locks, which would then permit to play the bonus games, as well as looking for all the objects in every of the 25 pictures. There's 25 levels, and on average, you'll have to go through 4 or 5 different places to look for objects. In my opinion, searching for 80 objects in one level (the highest amount you'll have to find) is just too much. ![]() While I did finish the story mode of Escape Rosecliff Island completely, and did have a fair amount of fun with the concept of searching for objects hidden where you'd expect them least, the game very, very quickly became very redundant. If so, buy it if it is on sale for 90 percent off. Verdict: Don't spend 5 dollars for this game unless you happen to enjoy visiting the same hidden object scenes over and over. On the plus side, the artwork is nice, with the hidden object scenes not being overly cluttered, and the items were often cleverly hidden. As much as I enjoy hidden object games, even I found myself overwhelmed with mind-numbing boredom. As you progress along, you begin to see the same hidden object scenes again. Upon completion of the puzzle games, you are rewarded an item to assist in your escape, such as a bucket or a stack of wood. The gameplay consists of you bouncing from one hidden object scene to the next, and as you finish a "level," you complete a simple "puzzle" game such as a word search or matching tiles. There is no dialogue with NPCs, no narration, nothing. There is no explanation as to who the previous resident(s) of the island were, or why the island is now deserted. Not even for the price of 5 dollars.Īpparently the plot states that you have been shipwrecked on Rosecliff Island, and your task is to collect items to help you escape. It might also ask you to combine certain items in the scene, like putting eggs into a nest or framing a picture.I wish I could recommend this game, but I can't. Besides simply finding a listed item sometimes the word on the list is a clue, such as saying "trunk owner" when you need to find an "elephant". Test Your Searching and Problem Solving SkillsĮscape Rosecliff Island provides a hidden object experience which gamers of all ages can quickly grasp and play, while adding some extra twists to the traditional gameplay. If you ever get stuck you can always use the hint button to find one of the items, and you simply have to wait a set time period before you can use the hint button again.Īlso, you can find hidden padlocks in each scene which unlock additional game modes, like an Unlimited Seek & Find and a Mystery Bonus Game. Experience hours of fun as you search an array of cluttered scenes to find all the items on your list before the time runs. Advertisement Classic Hidden Object GameplayĮscape Rosecliff Island presents gameplay elements which fans of hidden object games will find instantly familiar. ![]()

![]() ![]() When you start a new game in Death Road to Canada, you are presented with the choice of either starting your game with randomly generated characters or you can create some. The wrong decision can have a disastrous effect on your journey to Canada as you could be too tired to fight the next time zombies surround you, or the beating you got from the hands of the bandits could take a huge chunk of your health going into the next mission, and with health only being replenished when you rest at night (if you have enough medical supplies, of course), you could find yourself starting again rather quickly. These can range from deciding to stay up all night to telling ghost stories to increase your group’s morale, or how to act when bandits demand half of your inventory to actually deciding what location you want to explore. Sieges are when Death Road to Canada is at its most unforgiving and will spell the end of your journey a lot of times.Īpart from looting locations and surviving the dreaded sieges, there also some text-based events that require your attention. The objective is simple: survive for a designated period of in-game time. Sieges randomly pop up when you’re sleeping out somewhere. Combat is inevitable, of course, so choosing to avoid it early in your journey will serve you well, especially when a dreaded siege is thrust upon you. There is nothing worse than being cornered in a room with zombies advancing on you and your only weapon is a near broken bit of wood. Ammo is scarce, and the melee weapons will break. This isn’t a game where combat should be your only thought. The numbers of zombies are quite small, and you can easily just run around them, pick up everything you need and head back to the car. The first few times you are given the option to stop, generally, it’s an easy run and grab. ![]() While traversing these locations, you’ll obviously have to deal with the zombies that are lurking around. Along the way, you’ll be faced with randomly generated locations where you will loot for food, medical supplies, gas for the car and ammo. You get there by driving (if you manage to keep your car full of gas and not damaged, if not it’s on foot buddy!) from Florida to the Canadian border. Those damned, pesky living dead have decimated your home in the United States and the rest of the world, but Canada is completely untouched by the undead. You have one main objective: make it to the safe haven of Canada. There is no long, drawn-out plot in Death Road to Canada. You die a lot so you learn from your mistakes, and the next time you hit the road, you’ll be a little wiser, get a little bit further and learn some more lessons along the way. Not in the sense that you won’t die, you’ll die, you’ll die a lot, but when you die, it never feels unfair or because the game is just too difficult. Death Road to Canada is, however, a forgiving perma-death title. Some strive for the challenge, and the fear of starting a game from scratch encourages them others, like me, can’t deal with the stress. Perma-death is a conflicting game mechanic, some gamers love it, some hate it and some (yours truly) fear it. It being a roguelike release means that it is a randomly generated adventure with the fearsome perma-death lingering over your head. Either by killing them by the hordes or trying to survive the undead with limited ammo and supplies, zombies are as popular as ever, and one of the most popular modern zombie survival titles has made its way to the Nintendo Switch now Death Road to Canada may have found its perfect home on Nintendo’s hybrid console.įirst released on mobile devices and PCs in 2016, Death Road to Canada is an action roguelike zombie survival title. Zombies have gotten into every nook and cranny of popular culture: TV, films, books and, of course, video games. Romero brought Night of the Living Dead to our screens in the late 60s. The living dead have been a mainstay in popular culture since the late, great George A. The latter perfectly describes the obsession we have with the living dead, the undead and those just damned loveable eaters of brains and other organs: zombies. Some trends are just timeless, aren’t they? Converse Allstars have been a constant popular choice of footwear for well over 60 years, the works of Shakespeare are still adored the world over, and who still doesn’t love a glorious cup of coffee to start the morning (or several to help you make it through the day)? Some trends that you assumed would stand the test of time have all but been forgotten, and some things you thought would burn out quickly are still going strong. ![]() ![]() Since the inception of Dallas, the creators and fans around the world have referred to Bobby and Pam as the Romeo and Juliet of Dallas. Note that SVG elements have a special set of CSS properties that work on them. This doesn’t have to be CSS embedded in the SVG itself, it can be anywhere, even in our global stylesheet ed up. Now in any CSS on this page we can control those individual elements with special SVG CSS. We can jump into the code and give them class names, just like any other HTML element can have. In our design, we have two elements that make up the design, an and an. See how the SVG looks a lot like HTML? That’s because they are both essentially XML (named tags with angle brackets with stuff inside). If you’re even more hardcore, here is a Node JS tool for doing it yourself. In Kyle Foster’s video, he even takes it the extra mile and removes line breaks after this optimization. SVG is already pretty small, but why not do all we can? Peter Collingridge has an online SVG Optimiser tool. It has a DOCTYPE and generator notes and all that junk. Likely not a huge shocker, but the SVG that Adobe Illustrator gives you isn’t particularly optimized. Specifically because SVG sometimes is exported with that as the opening line, which will cause the PHP parser to choke on it. Like: Ī little PHP-specific thing here… it was demonstrated to me that file_get_contents() is the correct function here, not include() or include_once() as I have used before. If you’re using a back end language that can go fetch the file and insert it, at least you can clean up the authoring experience. A potentially “bloated” document, a big chunk of crap right in the document you’re trying to author, and inability to cache. In other words, it has the same advantages as using a Data URI. This can be nice because the image comes over right in the document and doesn’t need to make an additional HTTP request. Remember how you can grab the SVG code right from Illustrator while saving if you want? (You can also just open the SVG file in a text editor and grab that code.) You can drop that code right into an HTML document and the SVG image will show up just the same as if you put it in an img. The mention of drinking is a convenient scapegoat for Turner and his father, because they can point the finger at the victim, who was drinking – the implication being that she was partially to blame for her predicament, which she wasn’t. It’s disheartening, to say the least, that Mr Turner thinks the problem here is alcohol consumption and sexual promiscuity, neither of which are the same thing as rape. “By having people like Brock educate others on college campuses is how society can begin to break the cycle of binge drinking and its unfortunate results.” ![]() “Brock can do so many positive things as a contributor to society and is totally committed to educating other college age students about the dangers of alcohol consumption and sexual promiscuity,” he wrote. Incredibly, Mr Turner went on to say that his son could become a role model for young people. Turner’s “actions” on the night of Januwere violent, because that night, he raped someone. Turner also left her with lasting feelings of despair, difficulty with trust, an inability to eat or sleep, depression, isolation, difficulty working, and continuing fear. Turner’s victim was left with bruises inside her vagina and scratches and lacerations on her skin. Rape is always violent, and it is always a violation. Mr Turner’s comment here portrays a fundamental misunderstanding of rape. Mr Turner went on to say that his son should not be sent to jail because of his lack of prior offending, and also because “he has never been violent to anyone, including his actions on the night of January 17, 2015.” The only difference is she had no say in it. That “good time,” of course, robbed Turner’s victim of her dignity and wellbeing and permanently altered the course of her life, too. As though it was harmless sexual fun – the kind young men are wont to seek out – and only 20 minutes of it, as if his son was cheated by having to face all these pesky consequences for a mere blip of a good time. That’s how Brock Turner’s father described his son raping an unconscious young woman behind a dumpster. That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life.”Ģ0 minutes of action. In the face of widespread backlash about his sentence, Turner’s father issued a statement defending his son, arguing his life will be “deeply altered” by the court’s verdict and that “He will never be his happy-go-lucky self with that easygoing personality and welcoming smile.” Turner’s father went on to describe the worry, anxiety, fear and depression his son now faces, before stating that “His life will never be the one that he dreamt about and worked so hard to achieve. Photo credit: Jezebel story (linked above) ![]() Judge Aaron Persky is now facing widespread calls to be removed from his judicial position, and Brock Turner’s face is plastered all across the Internet – although most images are of him smiling, with a fresh haircut and clean-cut suit, rather than his actual mugshot from the night, which has recently been provided to the media. ![]() It’s for this reason that an unusual amount of outrage has been garnered about this rapist and his sentence. Photo credit: Buzzfeed story (linked above) The 23 year-old woman spoke in heartbreaking detail about the impact of the rape on her and her family, beginning with a punch-to-the-gut opening – “You don’t know me, but you’ve been inside me, and that’s why we’re here today” – and continuing by detailing her gruelling treatment by defence counsel and the lingering impact of her traumatic assault. We may not even have known about this case, if it weren’t for the eloquent and deeply moving statement his victim read to the court, which has since gone viral online. In March this year, judge Aaron Persky handed down a six month sentence to Turner despite the maximum sentence of 14 years for three counts of sexual assault, saying that he thought “A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him… I think he will not be a danger to others.” This, in itself, isn’t news: rapists avoiding jail time for their crimes is nothing new, and it’s not unusual for young, white male athletes from prestigious universities to be treated leniently by their schools and the legal system. On January 17, 2015, Stanford student athlete Brock Turner raped an unconscious women behind a dumpster. Trigger warning: this opinion piece addresses rape and sexual violence. The statements of Stanford student athlete and rapist Brock Turner’s family and friends point to the poisoned atmosphere which helps prominent men believe they are entitled to rape, says Madeleine Holden. ![]() ![]() ![]() We’re happy to swap or refund any item that is confirmed as faulty (or ‘Dead on Arrival’) within 14 days of purchase, and will cover the cost of you returning it and a replacement being shipped out.
